What were you doing before stardom?
Even before hitting the limelight as an international recording artist, I have always been in music. I come from a musical lineage and background from the Laoye Ajeniju royal family in Ede, Osun State. I grew up surrounded by the constant beautiful expression of music inspired by my dad, Prince Isaac Laoye who had the gift of music as a singer, guitarist and drummer. He nurtured my gift and got me on the path of music since I was a kid.
Professionally, I started off in a girl group known as Soul Sistas with two friends of mine; Debola and Aboyowa while we were at the University of Ibadan. I was also in a dance company called Exousia. All of these prepared me for my work as a recording and performing artist and helped me become the artist that I am today.
What is your educational background?
I had primary education at a children’s school in Gbagada and secondary school education at the Federal Government Girls College, Sagamu, Ogun State and earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the University of Ibadan.
My final year project actually got chosen and published for The American Journal of Undergraduate Research, 2005 Edition, USA. It’s available online till date.
How many songs did you record before you became known?
Funnily enough, my first single, “Never Felt This Way Before” made me famous. I had already finished recording my first album, “Angel 4 Life” in 2006 and with the help of my record label, Wahala Media Entertainment, we put out the first rock single and it just went viral, spreading so fast across the radio, TV, and others. This was at a time when there wasn’t much social media, we had just Facebook then.
