The Robotics center of our Alma-mater was commissioned on Saturday 24th of September, 2022. In less than a year, our sisters presented their first Humanoid Robot to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Andrew David Adejo on Tuesday 8th August, 2023 in Abuja, FCT.
The event, which held at the FCT – Abuja, attracted various officials from the Minsitry of Education and other stakeholders. While this great feat was largely viewed online, some members of our alumni were physically present to witness and encourage the team.
The six (6) feet height robot, weighing 60kg with a maximum speed of 10 km/hr is named Okikiola-Sagamu; which means the *The Fame of Sagamu’s Wealth* and fondly referred to as *”Kiki-Saggy”*.
Miss Esther Ogunnaike, an SS2 student and member of the team explained that Kiki operates in the area of artificial intelligence and she has the ability to recognise faces, exchange pleasantries, bend to pick objects and can also be used for industrial purposes.
She further expounded the process of building Kiki, challenges encountered and assistance received. She appealed to the Ministry of Education to provide additional support and encouragement to enable the team build better versions of their Kiki.
Our Director/Principal, Dr. Muyibat Olodo, who led the Robotics Team for the presentation, stated yet again the importance and choice of the yoruba name Okikiola, and declared that Kiki is a symbol, showing the wealth of knowledge that FGGC Sagamu has in her students and teachers.
The National Executives say a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our 2023 Robotics Team, students and staff of our Alma-mater for this fantastic achievement and we appreciate everyone who took time to support and encourage by being physically present across the sets -Habiba Musa Tumsah (1990), Latifat Olaitan Salami (1993), Toyin Bashir (1993), Titi Jimeta (1993), Jemila Rumah Bawa (1997), Opeyemi Odukale (2003)
