45th Founder’s Day Celebration & All-Sets Reunion

The 45th edition of the Founder’s Day celebration of our alma-mater, commenced in Lagos, Nigeria with the All Sets Reunion which took place on Saturday the 15th of January, 2023. The event brought together our sisters across generations donning various awesome styles of gingham and reminiscing our days in school. Also, what the future of the alumni holds and basically have a amazing time in a condussive environment with good food, games and music. The event also had various exhibitions on display.

The highlight of the program was the “bed space” photo-booth created by Sisi Visage which included a bunk bed complete with 2 mattress dressed with white bed sheets and 7 different gingham bed spreads representing all the houses, pillow, suitcase, bucket and manual labour utensils. Other activities included the Set dance in and the fashion parade.

 

The celebration was then moved to our Alma mater, FGGC Sagamu, for a 3-day event held within the school premises which kicked off on Friday, January 20th, 2023, with a special Anniversary Jumat Service at 1 PM, followed by a Novelty football match between the Alumni Association (Saggy Mamas) and the current students (Saggy Babes) by 3:30 PM.

The Saggy Mamas successfully defended their 40th Anniversary title with a goal win score of 4-1 against the Saggy Babes.

DAY 2

The Day 2 of the celebration started at 10 AM on Saturday, January 21st, 2023, with the Old Students Reunion held at the Fashina Hall. The theme of the reunion was “FGGC Sagamu: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow”.

The speaker for the day, Mrs. Bukola Baruwa, a National Alumni Board of Trustees member and a member of the 1988 set, took the audience on a nostalgic journey during her speech. She reminisced about her time as a JS1 student in 1982 and shared her aspirations for the school and its students in the future.

Meanwhile, during the program, a group of alumni organized a “Finder’s Keepers” game, where Branded souvenirs were placed inside pillowcases belonging to students who had neatly arranged their beds, as a reward for good time management and neatness.

After the program, Omolara Turton (National Alumni Board of Trustees member) and Priscilla Ejiofor (National Assistant Secretary) gifted novels to all 43 College Prefects and in a presentation, also donated books for the school library to the principal, Dr. Mrs. Olodo.

We express our sincere thanks to Sabin (1990 set) and Oluwatomisin Ogundemuren (2018 set) for the books and novels they donated as their 45th Anniversary Alumni Give-Back project.

 

DAY 3

Day 3 commenced with a Thanksgiving service on Sunday, January 22nd, 2023, at 9 AM at the Fashina (PTA) Hall and concluded at the OrekeBeau Empowerment Hub grounds. The celebration was held with the CEO of OrekeBeau Foundation, Mrs Bosede Sule-Odu (1990 Set) and other members of the foundation in honor of the 5th anniversary of the OrekeBeau Empowerment Centre for Fashion & Design, which was commissioned on January 21st, 2018, and serves as a vocational training center for the college’s students.

We express our deep gratitude and appreciation to everyone who participated in all the activities and made the 45th Anniversary Celebrations a success. We also appreciate the donations, time, and resources that were given and do not take the labor of love for granted.
