The National body of the FGGC Sagamu Alumni Association (FGGSAA) held her Inaugural Annual General Meeting on Saturday the 16th of November, 2019, with the theme “A Bond Like No Other”. The purpose of the meeting was to present the Association’s report for the past one year to her members i.e. old students of FGGC Sagamu–Ogun state, and chart a way forward.
The National President, Mrs Titilayomi Akinseinde, presided over the meeting and gave the opening remarks in which she expressed her joy on what the Association had achieved so far and showed her optimism for the future. She charged members to stand together as sisters and in the heart of oneness forging a bond that draws us closer, creating value and making the change we want to see.
Included in the secretariat report presented by the National Secretary, Mrs Abimbola Olayisade, was a 3-day skill acquisition program for SS1 to SS3 students which granted the girls the opportunity to learn various skills and produced coconut oil, fascinators, household cleaning liquids, Bread, snacks, wigs, bags, purses and also learnt event planning and management.
The National Treasurer, Mrs Folabomi Salami, during the presentation of the Management account stated that as a new Association the need to build trust is at the very top of the list and various measures had been put in place and also enshrined in the constitution to ensure accountability, professionalism, and financial prudence. In addition to this the National Financial Secretary, Adetayo Okusanya, thanked members for their financial and moral support and encouraged everyone to get involved in the association activities, not to relent in the payment of their annual dues and hold the elected Executives to high standards of responsibility and accountability in carrying out the mission of the Association.
The National Vice President, Mrs Bola Yusuf-Ekine, presented Vision 2020: The Associations plans and budget for the year 2020. Included in her report were various activities, programs, projects and events which the Association intends to execute in the year 2020, some of which include organizing various talks and seminars for the students on career, life and social skill, etiquette and maintenance culture; Skill acquisition programs for both members and students, Market Expo and Fun Day for the general public and working with the school management and PTA to solve the lingering water crisis in school.
The main concern on the minds and hearts of members in attendance, which posed a serious issue was the fact that our school is a unity school owned by the Federal Government, who have the responsibility to cater to the needs and requirements of the school and that The Association should not be used or seen as an enabler of corruption by executed projects or programs which funds have already been allocated to the school authority and has been disbursed or awaiting disbursements from the Federal Government. To this the National president, Mrs Titilayomi Akinseinde, explained that the National Executives are working with the Management and the PTA of the School to ensure that projects and programs budgeted under the Federal Government Subvention and other allocations are not duplicated by the Association.
Mrs Oyindamola Sonola, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Association and a member of the first set of A’Level students that graduated in 1980, encouraged members to support the association as it aims to support not just our Alma-mater and students but also each other, as we foster love and co-operation among generation of sisters.
